A deep garnet coloured with tinges of purple and blue shows the increased Cabernet before the first taste of this rare Left Bank blend. The nose is intense with a Pomerol-esque quality and a range of aromas from blackberry, cocoa, tobacco, to a hint of thyme. Underpinning the fruit is lovely oak with notes of vanilla and spice. In the mouth, the wine is rich and broad across the palate, but remains lithe and focused which shows the care the winemaking team put into assemblage. The wine finishes long and with a power that suggests it will be many years before it reaches full expression.

Bouquet is extraordinary on this wine,  showing a  complexly fragrant cedar / oak / dark tobacco and fruit interaction which immediately reminds of Rioja or Ribera del Duero.  There are some reminders of Pauillac too,  particularly earlier incarnations of wines like Grand-Puy-Lacoste from a lighter fragrant year,  and many 1998 Medocs.  Though not a big wine,  the volume of bouquet,  backed by cassis and red / black berry is marvellous.  Palate is equally complex,  fragrant oak melding with medium-weight fruit,  no acrid edges. 18.5/20 --Geoff Kelly

Ruby and velvet.  Bouquet is rich,  deep and dark,  totally Medoc cassisy Cabernet dominant,  with Merlot floral suggestions and aromatic potentially cedary oak.  Palate is sternly Cabernet in classic Bordeaux style, the whole wine is long in flavour.
