2021 Vintage Declared “Outstanding” by Cameron Douglas MS

Master Sommelier, Cameron Douglas recently reviewed the Destiny Bay 2021 vintage and we are delighted with his expressive analysis of the three wines.

Destinae boasted a “rich bouquet with a deep core of dark berries from blackberry to black currant, then chocolate and clove, roasted plum and baking spices from toasted barrel” with “a dark clay and dry stone quality.” Douglas also noted “violets and dark cherry wrapped in chocolate, smoky wood qualities and spice.” An array of tastes and aromas resulting in a “balanced and well made” wine. He awarded the Destinae 2021 93 points.

Douglas’ interpretation of the Mystae made it sound like the perfect beverage for these chilly autumn evenings. “Rich and smoky, fruity and spicy, warm and ripe, dark spices and bitter chocolate, pressed violets and new leather”. His descriptions paint a picture of curling up by the fire with a good book and glass of red. “Firm tannins and warming alcohol, a youthful acid statement, some cigar and iron and oak flavours that reflected in flavours of baking spices and wood smoke”. Mystae was given and outstanding 95 points.

Magna Praemia came out on top once again with 95 points and an exciting elucidation of all its complexities. “Youthful, complex, fruity, myriad varietal scents, slightly lifted, dry stone earth, smoky and toasty oak, bitter and milk chocolate, miso, Bovril and violets. Fantastic on the palate, focused, ripe, cigar and sweet tobacco, chocolate and chilli spice, powdered clove and toasty barrel flavours. An abundance of tannins, long chain and polished, myriad red fruit flavours from Doris plum to blackberry, dark cherry skin and lees spices. There’s a light reductive flinty quality only adds to the complexity”.
