Destiny Bay Awarded Triple Merit Classification

The Real Review is New Zealand and Australia’s most popular and reputable wine scoring and marketing platform and has been a long time supporter of Destiny Bay and our wines. As well as being named the #2 winery this year in their Top Wineries of New Zealand awards, The Real Review has also just released their updated list of wines for the Wine Classification of New Zealand.

We are very pleased and proud to announce that Destiny Bay has made its debut on the list, with its three wines at Three Merits, the highest tier of the classification.

The Wine Classification program was created three years ago and follows strict guidelines of what a winery must accomplish to be included. “A wine must have a minimum of ten vintages reviewed to qualify and once classified, it will retain its classification for four years with the annual opportunity to be increased in ranking if its performance warrants it”, writes Stephen Wong MW.

“More recent vintages are given slightly more weight in any calculations performed by the algorithm, but otherwise, it reflects the long-term performance of a wine across time. This means the classification rewards consistency.”

A total of twenty-eight Cabernet, Merlot and their blends are included in the Three Merit wines, along with nine Pinot Noirs, five Chardonnays, four Syrahs and three Rieslings. While there are only twenty-eight wines in the Three Merit category, there are over one hundred in the Two and One Merit section.

All in all, an impressive feat and a great honour to be recognised for our quality and consistency.
